We were recently invited by www. Artudio.net, a Nepalese art organization, to assist in the construction of their Community Arts Center (C.A.C..) The C.A.C. will serve the local village as resource center where volunteers can assist in the cleanup and rebuilding efforts of the village, knowledge and information can be transmitted, art is utilized to heal and grow communities, and where tools and technology can be freely accessed to assist in rebuilding efforts and develop local economies. We will be providing: building plans from our team of architects and engineers, a sawmill to produce the lumber necessary for construction, volunteers to aid with the cleanup and construction, and a Maker/Hackerspace where kids and adults can learn skills (computer programming, welding, sewing, masonry, carpentry, ceramics, electronic engineering, and more), and basic dental/health services. Our project’s start date is May 12th and will be marked by community art burn. The Gairimudi Art Burn is a first of it’s kind community building project, where kids, local, volunteer artists, and others will come together to build a large wooden art sculpture from scrap wood. We have chosen to build the Nepali word for “Worry.” Everyone will have the opportunity to write down the worries to share and burn as a collective community. Immediately after the burn, our team will begin setting up the sawmill to begin construction of the Makerspace. Please contact us to find out how you can participate in making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people of Gairimudi, Dolhaka.
